Session I

Fundamentals of X-ray Fluorescence is for both relative newcomers in the field and more experienced users who want to broaden their understanding of fundamental concepts and established procedures. The major emphases are acquiring reliable experimental data and qualitative phase identification using manual search techniques, as well as computer-based methods for qualitative and quantitative phase analysis.

The course format combines morning lectures with afternoon recitations and workshops. Ample opportunity for individual student-faculty interaction exists throughout the week, including small recitation and workshop groups and a session where students can discuss their applications and problems with the entire faculty.

Session II

The Advanced Methods in X-ray Fluorescence course is designed to teach and practice method development, including scope definition, selection and creation of reference material, instrumental settings, and, most importantly, mathematical matrix correction and compensation methods for calibration. For maximum benefit from the Advanced Methods in X-ray Fluorescence, the ICDD course faculty strongly recommends that students have previously attended Session I.

This practical-oriented course alternates lectures with hands-on practice to deepen and reinforce the material. The class is limited to 16 attendees to ensure individual attention and a focused learning experience. It requires and familiarity with Excel to complete the exercises on matrix correction.

Fee and Registration:
Registration fees for training courses include lecture, workshop, and lab materials as well as catered lunches on all full days. We will accept registrations up to two weeks before the course starts. After that, please call for availability. You must receive payment before the course to attend.

Transfer, Cancellation, and Refund Policy:
ICDD must guarantee payment for meals and materials in advance. You will receive a 50% refund of the paid registration fee if ICDD receives your written cancellation 20 business days before the class starts. With less notice, a colleague may take your place, or we will mail the course materials to you, but no refund will be given. Please note: A minimum of 10 registrants per course is required; otherwise, the course will be canceled, and your registration fee will be refunded. You will be notified of a course cancellation no later than two weeks prior to the start of the course.

Note: ICDD reserves the right to use any and all photographs taken throughout the course to promote the courses without additional approval from you, the participant.
